Deep Impact Workshop - Macquarie University, Sydney - Monday Sep 6th 2004
The NASA Deep
Impact mission will arrive at Comet Tempel 1 on July 4 2005. A
360kg
impactor will hit the comet
at 10km/s while a flyby spacecraft will observe the
impact.
The impact and its effects will also be observed by
ground-based telescopes.
A workshop will be held at the Australian
Centre for Astrobiology (Building E8C 153) at Macquarie
University on
Monday Sep 6th 2004 to help coordinate observations of
the event from Australia. The Coordinator of Earth-Based
Observations for the mission, Prof. Karen
Meech of the University of Hawaii's Institute of Astronomy will be
present.
The workshop is one of a number being held around the
world to prepare for the mission.

the workshop please include a title in your e-mail.
The workshop will start at 9:30am and run to about
16:00.
